GENERAL SANTOS CITY, March 14 — The Region 12 or Soccsksargen
regional athletic delegation will open on Saturday a 40-day training
camp in preparation for the 2014 Palarong Pambansa.
Dr. Allan Farnazo, Department of Education (DepEd) Region 12
director, said Friday a total of 529 athletes, coaches, chaperones and
trainers will join the training camp, which will be held at the South
Cotabato Sports Complex in Koronadal City.
He said the delegation is specifically composed of 441 elementary and
secondary athletes, 64 coaches, four co-coaches, 16 chaperones and four
trainers.
It includes 22 athletes with special needs and 12 others who will participate in billiards and futsal demonstration games.
Farnazo said the training will end on April 23 or two weeks before
the Palarong, which is slated on May 4 to 10 in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
“We’re very positive coming into the training camp because of the
excellent performance recorded by our athletes during the SRAA
(Soccsksargen Regional Athletic Association) meet last month,” the
official said.
Farnazo said they’re hoping that the recent inclusion of the
delegation’s official name to SRAA from the previous Cotabato RAA will
provide added boost to the confidence and morale of their athletes.
He said they also adopted the tagline “Abanse and Dose” as the
official battlecry of the Region 12 delegation in the upcoming national
games.
Such tagline was derived from the region’s official slogan “Kilos Abanse, Rehiyon Dose.”
“We should always be optimistic in everything that we do. If we are
into sports, we should always work and train hard to win,” he said.
Farnazo said they expect Region 12 to improve on its seventh place finish in last year’s Palarong Pambansa in Dumaguete City.
He said they are specifically aiming to retake the title of being the “best in Mindanao” when it comes to sports.
