Two more sports will be played as demonstration sports in the 2014 edition of the Palarong Pambansa.
They are wushu and billiards. The Department of Education (DepEd)
earlier approved the inclusion of wrestling in the Palarong Pambansa
which will be held in Laguna.
The three demonstration sports will be staged along with archery,
arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess,
football, gymnastics, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis,
tae kwon do, tennis and volleyball.
The province of Laguna won the hosting rights of the annual
multi-sporting event after passing the criteria set by the DepEd and the
Philippine Sports Commission.
Batangas City, Puerto Princesa City, Mindoro and Marikina City also
expressed their intention to host the 2014 Palarong Pambansa.
Laguna owns a track oval, Recreational, Education, Cultural and
Sports Stadium, a world-class archery range, football field and
dormitories for delegates.
More than 5,000 athletes, officials and coaches are expected to
attend the 2014 Palarong Pambansa led by powerhouse National Capital
Region—the defending the overall champions in the elementary and
secondary divisions.
