TAGUM CITY- “As if you are already hosting Palarong Pambansa because of your sports facilities.”
Tonisito
Umali, assistant secretary of education and chair of Palarong Pambansa,
stressed these words during a luncheon meeting Saturday (Feb. 8) in
Capitol, Tagum City with Governor Rodolfo del Rosario. Joining them were
Department of Education Regional Director Gloria Benigno, Davao del
Norte Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Josephine Fadul, and other
education officials in the region.
Umali, who arrived
with DepEd consultant Atty. Ronnie Esguera from the Central Office, came
to monitor the status of the 2014 Davao Region Athletic Association
(DAVRAA) Meet. They checked the sports facilities and capacities of the
billeting quarters, and assessed whether the regional meet hosting would
qualify the province and the city to host the 2015 Palarong Pambansa.
They were ushered by Vice Governor Victorio Suaybaguio Jr.,
OIC-Provincial Administrator Norma Lumain, and Tagum City Mayor Allan
Rellon.
Umali was impressed at the sight of the Davao
del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex, which is the official venue of
this year’s DAVRAA, and likened the regional meet hosting to Palaro.
The
group proceeded to the new DepEd Davao del Norte Division office
building. It was inaugurated Sunday (Feb. 9) the same day DAVRAA
formally opened. (by Dr. Virginia Perandos, chief of Governance Division, DepEd Davao del Norte)
