2015 Palarong ARMMAA begins

ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman, Regional Education Secretary Jamar Kulayan, Maguindanao Gov. Esmael Mangudadatu, Rep. Bai Sandra Sema of the First District of Maguindanao and Parang Mayor Ibrahim Ibay graced the opening ceremony.

Athletes both from elementary and secondary schools in Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Basilan, Lamitan City, Marawi City, Lanao del Sur 1 and 2 and Maguindanao 1 and 2 will compete in basketball, volleyball, football, athletics, boxing, wushu, arnis, wrestling, taekwondo, and archery.

In 2014, Lamitan City Division ruled the championship of the secondary category while the Division of Tawi-Tawi and Maguindanao I finished second and third respectively.

Winners of the meet will represent the region in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa on the first week of May in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

Meanwhile, Rep. Bai Sandra Sema, of the First District of Maguindanao, said that the holding of Palarong ARMAA is relevant and timely especially now that the region has been featured in the news recently because of the Mamasapano incident.

“The Bangsamoro is no ordinary people. The Bangsamoro is a strong and proud people, and as we compete with one another today, we will unite with one another tomorrow. We will rise to stand on the strength of our own feet, we will look at this future filled with vigor, faith and determination,” Sema.

CVIRAA 2015 delegates start arriving in Cebu City

CEBU CITY, Feb. 23 — Delegates from other provinces to the Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association (CVIRAA) 2015 have started to arrive in Cebu for the start of the regional sporting event on February 25.

Dr. Juliet Jeruta, Department of Education (DepEd) 7 director, said the start of competition would be on February 25, but its formal opening will be on Feb. 26.

The regional meet, which gathers thousands of athletes, coaches, trainers and supporters and officials of local government units from the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor, is expected to end on March 2.

She said this year’s host is the province of Cebu, specifically the municipality of Balamban in western Cebu, while supporting hosts are the town of Asturias and Toledo City.

“This would be the venue to choose the most outstanding athletes for Central Visayas,” Jeruta said.

She said at least 19 schools divisions are set to join the event and the winners would then represent the region in the 2015 Palarong Pambansa in Tagum City, Davao del Norte in May.

“We are all in this event so that our efforts will be forged together to choose the best. Let us put our forces together, both our prayers and moral support for the athletes,” Jeruta said in a message to the delegates.

“For the athletes, we are giving you the opportunity to develop your innate characteristics and potentials and manifest the trainings for your cultivation, use this in the best way. May you take victory with humility and accept challenges and defeat graciously,” she added.

Over 700 delegates from Bohol province already arrived in Cebu last Saturday.

The delegates arrived on board two passenger shipping lines and gathered near Plaza Independencia in Cebu City where at least 10 buses were waiting to transport them to Balamban town, some 48 kilometers west of this city.

The Bohol delegation would be staying at the Buanoy National High School in Buanoy, Balamban.
Out of the 700 delegates from Bohol, 407 are athletes from private and public schools from both elementary and secondary divisions.

Pangasinan 2 dethrones Ilocos Norte in R1AA meet

MANAOAG, Pangasinan: Host Pangasinan 2 rallied in the last two days of the week-long Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) meet to beat and wrest back the crown it last won three years ago from perennial champion Ilocos Norte. 

The new R1AA champion, representing the fourth, fifth and sixth congressional districts of the province, seized the crown on Friday when it won 88 gold medals, at least 61 of them in the secondary school division, in addition to 21 silver and 48 bronze medals to dethrone the perennial champion. Ilocos Norte went home frustrated by capturing only 41 gold, 45 silver and 55 bronze medals to finish second.

Dagupan athletes, tumanggap ng insentibo

DAGUPAN CITY– Kabuuang 281 mga atleta sa Dagupan na sasabak ngayon sa Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) meet ang tumanggap muna ng kanilang cash allowance sa pamahalaang lungsod bago tumulak sa Manaoag National High School.

Ang bawat isa ay nabigyan ng P2,000 maliban pa sa kanilang meal at tranportation allowances.

Ito ay bahagi lamang ng pangangalaga at suporta ni Mayor Belen T. Fernandez upang lalong ganahan ang mga atleta na makikipagtagisan sa kanilang mga isport.

“She would like to assure our athletes na alagang-alaga natin sila sa sasalihan nilang event,” pahayag ng ilang opisyal ng lungsod.

Maliban sa cash ay tumanggap din ng bagong uniporme at sports equipment ang mga atleta. 

“We have provided them new sports equipment and shoes which they can use for their practice and training to boost their confidence after the mayor personally saw them in one of their training sessions that the equipment they are using are already torn and worn out,” dagdag pa ng sports official.

Performance-enhancing substances, bawal sa Palaro

May 81 araw na lamang ang nalalabi bago ang nakatakdang hosting ng 2015   Palarong Pambansa sa Davao del Norte, isinagawa ng lalawigan ang Sub-National Anti-Doping Conference sa tulong ng Philippines Sports Commission (PSC) at United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Ayon kay Governor Rodolfo del Rosario, hangad nila na lalo pang maiangat ang integridad ng sports, partikular ang pinakamalaking school-based sporting event sa bansa sa pamamagitan ng pagkakaroon ng patas na labanan at kulturang walang bahid ng ipinagbabawal na gamot sa student athletes. 

Hindi umano nila hahayaan na masira ng ipinagbabawal na performance-enhancing substances ang Palaro na isang makapangyarihang event para palaganapin ang kapayapaan sa rehiyon. 

“Never will we allow doping to directly challenge the fairness of the competition,” pahayag ni Del Rosario. 

Mahigit sa 200 coach, trainors, medical doctors at nurses sa Davao Region ang dumalo sa event na unang ginanap sa Mindanao.

Ayon kay Dr. Alejandro Pineda Jr., ang Medical Director at Doping Control Head ng PSC, hangad ng nasabing conference na makapagbigay ng impormasyon hinggil sa anti-doping sa sports at ang pang-araw-araw na buhay ng sports stakeholders.

Target din nilang maituro sa mga kabataang atleta ang kahalagahan ng tunay at malinis na laban kasabay sa pagkakaroon ng malusog na pangangatawan at pamumuhay.

Ayon pa kay Pineda, ang isang well-trained athlete ay maaaring manalo kahit hindi gumamit ng ipinagbabawal na gamot basta’t may tamang preparasyon at kumpiyansa sa pagsabak sa isang laban. 

“Athletes do not need performance-boosting drugs provided that they were given proper endurance-building, as well as, physical training and conditioning,” paliwanag ni Pineda.
